The Ancient Egyptians were the first known people to have used leather purses. Evidence of this can be seen from hieroglyphics wherein some people are depicted carrying pouches around the waist area. The reputation of respected designers carried over to their creations such that the creations gained credibility simply by having the names of designers plastered on them.
